Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees is responsible for the real property of the church and matters relating to it. The BOT annually reviews the church, parsonage and other church-owned properties and assess accessibility needs; it reviews and manages the investments of the church (e.g. assets, estates, bequests, and trusts); this can be done in collaboration with the Finance Committee and with the direction of the Administrative Council. The BOT annually reviews the adequacy of the property, liability, and crime insurance coverage and personnel insurance. It also prepares the church report for the annual church conference. Finally, the Board of Trustees is responsible for approving the use of church facilities by external organizations, assuring that such use is consistent with the Social Principles and ecumenical objectives of the United Methodist Church.

Member Requirements:
All members of the Board of Trustees must be of legal age, as determined by the law. At least 1/3 shall be men and 1/3 shall be women; 2/3 of the members shall be professing members of the United Methodist Church. Each BOT member serves a term of no more than 3 years; individuals may be elected for a maximum of two consecutive terms. The Board of Trustees meets on the first Wednesday of odd months throughout the year and/or as needed (but at least once/year). The BOT's first meeting must be in January to elect officers (President, Vice President, Secretary/Treasurer) for the new year. These officers must be members of the Howard United Methodist Church.
